Lighthouse Rules & Regulations

The Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station is both a working lighthouse and museum. As such, the Association asks that all visitors adhere to a few simple rules to ensure both their safety and the safety of the historic Light Station and museum artifacts. Please review and discuss the following Lighthouse Rules with your group prior to arrival.

  • Tour Group Guidelines: Group leaders and chaperons are responsible for ensuring the following guidelines are adhered to by their groups:
    • Students must be accompanied by an adult at all times while on the Lighthouse grounds.
    • A ratio of one chaperon per every 10 students is required during all educational tours.
    • Chaperons must be physically able to climb the tower with their groups. Unescorted students will not be allowed to climb the tower by themselves.
    • Groups must stay together throughout the tour.
    • Students wishing to visit the Gift Shop must be accompanied by their chaperons.
    • Students are requested to use active listening skills during the tour and to raise their hands when asking and answering questions.
    • Water bottles, food, and backpacks are prohibited within the historic grounds; however, water fountains are located throughout the Light Station for our visitors’ convenience.

  • Tower Climbing Rules: All visitors are requested to adhere to the following guidelines when climbing the tower for the safety of both themselves and others.
    • Climbers must be in good physical condition..
    • Running, jumping or stomping on stairs or landings is forbidden.
    • Children must be accompanied an adult.
    • Children must be able to ascend and descend without being carried./li>
    • Be sure to pass other climbers only on the landings.
    • No flip flops or shoes with heels higher than 11/2" are allowed.
    • Please use hand railings at all times.
    • Anyone throwing objects from the tower (or down the interior) will be escorted from the museum.
